Snareweight Pro Lock for Cast Hoops (Brass)

The Snareweight Pro Lock is a brass mount that secures the brass #5 to die-cast hoops, which aren't magnetic.

You only need a Pro Lock if your drum has cast hoops. To check, hold a household magnet against the rim. If it doesn't stick, you have die-cast hoops. You'll also need the #5 brass body, because the two lock together.

The Pro Lock has an arched magnet that attracts the magnet in the #5 through the die-cast hoop, and a slot the #5 drops into to create a floating lock. Snareweight says a #5 with a Pro Lock is as good as it gets for dampening and road-worthy durability. With even the hardest hit, the #5 resets itself and falls back into place with perfect contact and balance, so it can't work itself loose from the hoop like other hardware methods. A couple of side isolation Sorbothane dampers reduce jitter when you use it on toms.

Tip: some drummers have had luck turning the Pro Lock on its side as a damper for S-hoops, using a standard insert.
