Snareweight #5 Brass Snare Drum Dampener

The Snareweight #5 is a CNC-machined solid brass snare dampener for heavy dampening, supplied with a leather insert and a spring-loaded carry case.

It's Snareweight's flagship dampener, now in its fifth generation, and it gives the most options for dialling in the right amount of dampening quickly. The weight of a solid chunk of brass, the friction of the leather insert and the magnet work together for what Snareweight calls "expressive dampening", with colour across the whole dynamic range.

Slide it around the rim with one hand while you hit the drum with the other until you find the sweet spot. The mass smooths out the lower-mid ringing that other methods can't reach, while keeping the tone of your shell. The insert you choose shapes the high-frequency ring, so match it to your favourite head. Snareweight also says the weight gives about 2-3 dB of compression, which helps reel the drum in for recording levels. The inserts are interchangeable, and the 70's inserts are the most effective way to kill top head overtones.

Will it fit your hoops? The #5 is built for metal triple-flange hoops. To check, hold a household magnet against the rim. If it sticks, you have triple-flange hoops and the #5 is all you need. If it doesn't, you have die-cast hoops, so add a Pro Lock. Not sure? Email info@blackwaxx.co with a photo of your drum.
